Raised From The Dead – Delay Is Not Denial

Sickness among God’s people will never result in death as the final outcome. Even if faced with death, Jesus can raise us from the dead if it is not God’s time for us to meet our Savior.

There was a family who had a genuine and strong devotion to Jesus, and Jesus loved them. Nevertheless, they experienced sorrow, sickness and death. These troubles can happen to anybody.

Churches will have people like Mary persevering in loving devotion to the Lord, and Martha faithful in good deeds. Yet their brother, Lazarus suffered and died. Families like these often cry out “How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?” (Psalm 13:1).

Jesus delayed going to the family he loved. “Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. Yet when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days.” (John 11:5, 6)

The reason for the delay is to strengthen the faith of that family and the disciples. Yet Jesus’ actions appeared to indicate that he was unconcerned by their suffering.

Jesus’ timing and purpose was different from what they wanted. Many times we also want things to be done in our own selfish way, and for our own glory. May we learn and understand that God’s timing and purpose in the midst of our trials.

Jesus said to her [Martha] in John 11:23, 25, “Your brother will rise again.” “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.” Do you believe this?

Jesus was grieved and angered by all the misery resulting from sin, Satan and death. And He did one of the surest signs that God is at work in our lives by raising Lazarus from the dead.

Martha was worried about the smell when Jesus ordered that the stone covering Lazarus’ tomb be removed ((John 11:38, 39). He had been dead for four days. But Jesus challenged her and said, “Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God” (v.40).

After praying, Jesus called out in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.” (John 11:41-44)

The Miracle of Lazarus’ resurrection was a sign pointing to Jesus as the resurrection and the life.

Dr. Crandall had a similar experience with his patient. If the Holy Spirit had not prompted the cardiologist to return to the clinically dead patient, and gave him a second chance through resuscitation, the patient would not have been revived.

  A man wasn’t feeling well and went to see his doctor. After examination, the doctor prescribed three bottles of pill with different colors.

There are many tests by which a gentleman may be known but there is one test which is above all. That is the test of authority – how he exercises power over those subordinate to him.

Many people mismanage the power that God has given us, including Lucifer, the archangel. The prophet Isaiah says of him, “You were determined to climb up to heaven and to place your throne above the highest stars. You thought you would sit like a king…You said you would climb to the tops of the clouds and be like the Almighty” (Isaiah 14:13-14 TEV).

 Pride has a way of getting into our system subtly, and causes us to rebel like Lucifer whom we now know as Satan. The rebellion costs Satan to fall from his position of second in command, and to be expelled from heaven. However, he still holds considerable amount of power and authority. We do not know how much, but it is enough to cause havoc in the world, including sickness and disease.

Likewise, God who created us in his image also placed us in a position of authority and power over all creation (Psalm 8:5-6). But we forfeited it through our own sinful rebellion and pride, and inadvertently landed on the side of Satan.

 Who can rescue us from our predicament? Who can restore us to a right relationship with God? Who can heal us from our sickness and disease?

If human experience seemed to contradict God’s clear teachings, submit to God’s commands, for His Word is truth (John 17:17).

In conclusion, not all miracle healings are divine healings. We need to know the source of the healing power. The ultimate healing that we can ever obtain is from the true and living God, whose divine intervention work has been demonstrated through Christ, the Lord and his disciples.
